How to Apply Perfume for Maximum Longevity
By The Velour Noir Edit·October 20, 2024
The difference between a fragrance that lasts two hours and one that lasts twelve is often nothing to do with the perfume itself.
# How to Apply Perfume for Maximum Longevity
You've invested in something beautiful. Here's how to make it last.
## Pulse Points: The Basics
Heat amplifies fragrance. Apply to pulse points where blood runs close to the skin's surface: inner wrists, neck, behind ears, inner elbows, behind knees.
## Moisturise First
Dry skin absorbs and destroys fragrance rapidly. Apply an unscented moisturiser before spraying. Alternatively, use a matching body lotion from the same line — layering dramatically extends longevity.
## Don't Rub
The classic mistake. Rubbing wrists together after application breaks down the fragrance molecules and destroys the top notes. Spray and leave.
## Hair Holds Fragrance Well
Mist the air and walk through it, or spray a very light amount onto your hair brush. Hair holds fragrance longer than skin.
## Distance Matters
Spray from 15-20cm away. Too close concentrates the fragrance in one spot; too far wastes it.
## Storage Preserves Quality
Keep bottles away from direct sunlight, heat and humidity. A drawer or box is ideal. Don't store in the bathroom.
